Senator Johanns e-Update
September 9, 2011
As Nebraskans and all Americans reflect on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, let us continue to honor those we lost on that day as well as the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting terrorism overseas. To them, their families, and all those in uniform who have given up so much to protect our freedoms here at home, we owe our eternal gratitude. Though those we lost on that tragic day can never be replaced, the past ten years have proven that what emerged from the rubble is a country stronger than ever and even more determined to defend our ideals and freedoms.

This month, Americans remember the nearly 3,000 innocent people killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The 9/11 memorial cross, a steel fragment found amid the rubble at the World Trade Center, stands to honor both the victims and the rescue workers who risked their lives that day.
A decade after the horrific attacks, a lawsuit filed by the American Atheists threatens to remove the steel cross from the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The Alliance Defense Fund is fully engaged in the legal battle to protect the cross from being removed.
ADF can only defend memorials like the Ground Zero Cross because of the generous financial support of people like you. Your gift will help provide ADF with the necessary resources to defend our nation’s memorials in court—and win. Will you stand with ADF today and show your support for the 9/11 memorial cross?
