THE HOUSE AND SENATE PASS THE BILL
Michael Savage "America has been "hoodwinked" http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=329089
Did anyone else notice that when Obama wasn’t getting his way on raising the debt ceiling, he threatened the base of the Republican party? He threatened to not pay social security retirees, military retirees, social security disability and federal retirees. He did not threaten to stop payments to illegal aliens, he did not threaten to take frivolous benefits such as internet access away from violent inmates. He did not offer to fire some of the thousands of unnecessary federal employees that he hired. He did not offer to cut down on his or his wife’s frivolous gallivanting around. He did not threaten to not pay the senators and representatives or any of their staff. He did not threaten to take benefits away from people who are just too lazy to work. He did not threaten to take benefits away from welfare recipients. He did not threaten the food stamp programs. He did not threaten to not pay foreign aid. This list could go on and on. He did not threaten to cut back on anything that involves his base voters.

Politics News Alert: S&P downgrades U.S. credit rating
----------------------------------------
The United States credit rating was downgraded for the first time Friday night, after a bipartisan debt deal signed into law this week failed to assuage concerns about the nation’s growing spending, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Standard & Poor's said it was reducing the U.S. credit rating from AAA to AA for the first time since it began assigning grades to countries in 1941. The credit rating agency warned several times this year that unless the government took steps to tame its debt, it could face a downgrade.

Senator Johanns e-Update
August 2, 2011
Two years ago we were debating about how much more money our government should spend; today we've reached an agreement that ensures more than $2 trillion will be cut.
I voted in favor of the Budget Control Act of 2011 as a first step in addressing our out of control spending. This bipartisan agreement cuts federal spending and increases the nation’s debt ceiling in order to pay our country’s bills. The legislation passed with bipartisan support in both chambers and now heads to President Obama for his signature. This was not a perfect plan, but we have avoided defaulting on our debt, which could have cost trillions in higher interest rates. While I would have preferred a long-term plan that addresses entitlement programs, our tax code and a balanced budget, I believe we need to pay our bills. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but a framework to restore our country’s fiscal health is now in place.

The revamped Budget Control Act has become law and our nation’s financial obligations will continue to be met. On Monday evening, the House of Representatives passed the measure with the Senate following suit on Tuesday. This bill is not the solution I would have liked to have seen. However, we have changed the conversation in Washington from one of spending to one of cutting. This legislation cuts spending by $2.1 trillion over the next decade and establishes a 12-member bipartisan congressional committee to identify more cuts, entitlement reforms, and tax changes by the end of the year. The President is no longer calling for a blank check, but is working with both parties to cut spending. Also included is a call on Congress to take up a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. This is a key issue that I have worked on for years. For more information on this legislation please follow these links to my wesite, Facebook page, Twitter feed and my recent interview on KKAR 1290.From Reince Priebus, Chairman-Republican National Committee "
YOU Stopped the Obama Tax & Borrow Bailout"Do you remember where America was just one year ago?
The Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda was doing a daily dose of damage to our American economy, destroying jobs with crippling regulations, oppressive spending and brand new taxes.
If that wasn't enough, the Democrats passed a government takeover of healthcare, spending record amounts of money we didn't have on a program we didn't want.
And to top it off, they raised taxes on hardworking taxpayers to pay for an $800 billion dollar stimulus -- claiming that they should have spent even more.
Maybe they thought they could get away with it. For two years, they did.
But on Election Day 2010, you stood up -- millions strong -- and said enough is enough.
You -- and millions of other Americans like you -- held them accountable. The Tea Party and millions of Conservatives led the charge from all 50 states right into the heart of Washington.
You didn't just change the debate in Washington. You changed the results. Today's passage of the Budget Control Act shows the impact you've already had... and how important it is to keep the pressure on Washington for the next 15 months.
Without you, Nancy Pelosi would still be Speaker Pelosi. She would have delivered President Obama exactly what he demanded: a blank check for unlimited spending, new taxes on American families, new regulations on job creators, and a debt ceiling increase with no strings attached.
Make no mistake: President Obama wanted hardworking American taxpayers to bail him out once again. He wanted YOU to pay for his failed stimulus and Obamacare, borrowing more money on your back to pay for them. He wanted you to sacrifice so that Washington wouldn't have to.
But because you kept the heat on Washington, Republicans in the House and Senate had the backup they needed to stand up and say NO to the Obama Tax & Borrow Bailout.
While the Budget Control Act is far from perfect, it is a step forward. The bottom line is that until we vote President Obama and his Democratic allies in the Senate out of power, we won't be able to truly change the culture in Washington and deliver the results Americans like you demand.
But think about how far we've come. Rather than trampling on the taxpayers, as the Democrats did when they controlled the House, this bill showed real respect to hardworking taxpayers. The legislation:
Stopped ALL of the tax increases Obama, Reid, and Pelosi demanded;
Forced the Senate to pass its first budget in two years, delivering Harry Reid a dose of accountability;
Held every politician accountable to vote yes or no on a balanced budget amendment; and
Protected the economy while demonstrating a commitment to reducing the debt.
This isn't the end of bringing spending discipline to Washington. It's just the beginning - and it wouldn't have happened without you.
Just yesterday, Joe Biden called the Tea Party "terrorists."
So
today, I am writing to thank you for being a patriot. I have so much respect for you. I respect the work you do day by day, year by year, to defend freedom and promote opportunity. Your dedication to our cause is saving America.Keep it up. Don't quiet down. Your voice cannot be ignored. Demand more from Washington. Demand more from those who represent you. At the RNC, we hear you - and we want to amplify your voice in Washington.
Over the next 15 months, all conservatives need to come together and focus on the only way to really fix what's wrong with Washington: voting Obama out of office and taking back the Senate. We are ready for battle. Are you?
Usually this is the part where we ask for money. Not today. In the last 24 hours you have given America something much more important than a donation. You have helped America take a step away from servitude and a step closer to freedom. We are proud of you. You are our heroes. You are true patriots.
You are Great Americans. God bless you.
Sincerely,
Reince Priebus

Debt Ceiling Crisis/Deal Senate/Floor debate on Mon., August 1, 2011
Some Senate Floor debate comments Mon., 8/1/2011 re: new Debt Reduction deal. Forgive any typos, I typed these comments as I listened to the Senators speaking on the floor - Cable channel 6:
Sen. Vitter R-LA
...we are at 14 Trillion now and this deal adds another 7 Trillion over next 10 yrs,...there is no plan to balance the budget....will vote to avoid a default BUT I don't want to downgrade either...this deal does not have teeth...no adequate enforcement included...I'm concerned the TRIGGERS in this bill WILL BE TRIGGERED because I can't see the left agreeing.....Sen Grassley R-IA
...people back home have to live within their budgets...something is wrong when the President says adding 13 trillion is a good deal...is it fair to our children and grandchildren to burden them because they cannot vote?...Our GDP is now at 62%, by end of year 72% and headed to 90%...Government consumes wealth Government does not create wealth...redistribution of wealth has never worked in other countries to increase the quality of life...we shouldn't turn backwards and rely on government...I hope we don't go that route and this budget debate will determine if we are going to continue on this present path.....unemployment is still above 9% the recovery that was supposed to come from the president's recovery plan....is wasteful government programs....from the Whitehouse today more taxes, more regulations from EPA leads to uncertainty for businesses to know what to do or how to invest - it retards growth...we are not creating jobs...for people out of work it is a depression...President says "fair and balanced" why is it fair to distribute more welfare to this generation...that ends up hurting our future working generations.....what is fair for our children and grandchildren?...is it fair to tax future generations for today's spending just because they can't vote?Sen Sanders I - VT
....I will be voting against this debt deal...it is grossly unfair....when we talk about this deficit reduction package...how much are the wealthy and most powerful being asked to contribute to this reduction?...We are in the middle of a recession, depression and yet this deficit reduction plan comes down on these people...shouldering the burden....it's bad economic policy...nobody knows what programs will be cut or how much because it will go to a super committee....what we can say is we are looking at a trillion in cuts and the most vulnerable will be at risk for cuts....I fear these are the cuts that will be made...we have a major crises in child care...we can expect major cuts in pell grants and makes college affordable for young people....affordable housing programs will be cut...so let's not kid ourselves..this debt reduction package will slap them up the side of their head...This is a two part package because a super committee will have the opportunity to look at everything...if everyting is on the table then Social Security is on the table...the President says maybe w3e should implement the CPI which means if retired at 75yrs old you lose $500 in income per year....poll after poll suggest 72% want those who make more than $250,000 to pay more...This is a bad proposal, an unfair proposal...we can do better...Some House Floor debate comments Mon., 8/1/2011 re: new Debt Reduction deal. Disturbance in the gallery - Sergent in Arms called to remove disgrunted individuals.
The disturbance was individuals chanting and carrying signs saying "CREATE JOBS"Rep Dreier R-CA
....economical growth depends upon a balanced budget...the deal we discuss today does that....gives us a chance to reform entitlement programs....we can make the hard but essential decisions....it will impose automatic cuts...we can all share in the benefits of a surging economy and job market...I urge support for this debt deal....Rep Slaughter D-NY
...I'm concerned about this bill...a super committee/a closed door committee....interest rates are higher now than they should have or would have been had this debate not gone on this long...millions of Americans are hurting...will hurt more with these draconian cuts....and not having the wealthiest contribute..tax loopholes must be closed....I urge to look for a balanced approachRep Rangel D-NY
...Voting against...never before have I seen such an attack on the President and fiscal responsibility...people who have lost their jobs and homes are the ones who will continue paying for this...this should be abolished (the joint committee)...the answer to this problem is jobs, jobs, and more jobs...Rep Dreier R-CA
....this bill makes sure jobs will be created...we are committed to creating jobs....this joint committee is a congressional committee much different from outside committees.....
